Pray for our Nation
My fellow Christians,
Yesterday America welcomed in a new president. For some the transition is exciting. For others it is frightening. I see cause for both rejoicing and concern. It is good to live in a nation moving beyond the notion that one group is better than another group simply because of skin color. It is good to live in a nation where anyone can become president regardless of race. But we should be concerned with the direction of the nation with regard to abortion and sexual morality. We have already been living in days when men say evil is good and good is evil. I fear this will only get worse.
But we do not despair. Not because of our strength or wisdom. Not because in four years we will have the opportunity to elect a new president. We do not despair because God still sits on the throne. His administration never comes to an end. What’s more, we know that no human authority exists unless God grants it: Romans 13:1, Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.
Pray for President Obama. Pray that he will see the truth about unborn life and the value of God’s commands for sexual purity. Do not pray that his unjust plans will succeed. Pray instead that he will succeed in accomplishing that which is pleasing to God. And know that no matter what he or any other human leader does, nothing happens outside of the will of God.
